Welcome!

Helping you…

learn life-long coping skills,

strengthen your relationships with others,

improve your confidence and self-esteem,

get back to feeling your best.

Anxiety

Navigating life while tackling anxiety can be difficult and uncomfortable. For those living with anxiety it can leave you feeling powerless, stuck, out of control - but it doesn’t have to stay that way! By gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and your needs, we hope to support you in taking power and control back over your own life.

Self-Esteem

We tend to be our own worst critics. Think back through the day and consider everything you may have said about yourself - chances are we can come up with a number of negative messages. The way we talk to and about ourselves can have a major impact on our self-esteem and having healthy self-esteem means we can understand that we deserve to be treated with respect by ourselves and others. Our goal is to support in developing a strong sense of self that will help lead you towards your goals.

Burnout

The truth is, life’s pressures can quickly become overwhelming. Whether it be from work, studying, parenting, or other daily responsibilities - without giving ourselves the right care and attention, we can be left feeling stressed, exhausted, and burnt out. Our goal is to help you create balance in your life and get you back to feeling your best!

Depression

Living with depression can be very difficult. Low mood, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and trouble sleeping can get in the way of daily tasks, achieving goals, and connecting with others. Together, we will explore areas of difficulty in your life with the goal of improving unhelpful thoughts and behaviours to respond to challenges in a more positive manner and increase fulfillment in your life.

Interpersonal Skills

Sometimes getting with others is hard! We disagree, we hurt or get hurt by others, we lose our patience. Interpersonal skills involve a wide range of themes including conflict resolution, problem solving, and emotional regulation. These are skills we use everyday in interactions with others, but that can get difficult to navigate for a variety of reasons. Together, we will work towards building up your interpersonal skills so you can strengthen your relationships with those around you.

Mindfulness & Relaxation

We often go through our day in a flurry - chores, work, school, spending time with friends and family. What happens within the rush is a lack of being present in any given moment. For example, you might be driving and end up at your destination with no memory of having driven there! Practicing mindfulness allows us to slow down, relax, and enjoy moments we might otherwise miss.

Our approach to counselling recognizes that you are the expert of your own life. Sometimes things can get difficult, confusing, or overwhelming - and that’s where we come in! Our goal is to create a comfortable and non-judgemental space for self-exploration, so that we can develop a plan that fits your individual needs and gets you back to feeling your best. No matter your reason for seeking support, you deserve to feel comfortable and assured!

New Light’s mental health blog offers a collection of stories, insights, and tips and tricks related to a range of mental health topics!

  • Societal and personal pressures can leave us feeling guilty, angry, and upset following a period of rest. However, it’s important for our mental and physical health to take time off, rest, and recharge! Sometimes getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, and putting on some fresh clothes is good enough for today - and that’s okay!

  • It’s common knowledge that a high number of people who set goals end up ditching them a few weeks or months later. How can we maximize our chances of success when it comes to goal setting?

  • Anxiety can make us believe all sorts of negative things about ourselves. When we start to listen, we might start limiting our adventures, making our world smaller and smaller. What we tell ourselves when we “do the thing anyways”, despite our feelings of anxiety, is that anxiety does not get to control how we live.

  • Ever tell yourself that you’re overreacting? That what’s causing you to be upset is “small”, “petty”, or “immature”? We have a tendency to believe that there are certain standards by which we are allowed to be upset. Something needs to be big, traumatic, and hurtful enough to deserve reacting. However, this line of thinking can work to create anxiety, self-doubt, and self-critical talk. So how can we change this into patience, kindness, and self-compassion?
